Agents acquitted of massacre in Brazilian Carandiru prison
The court of appeal in Brazil on Tuesday (local time) the judgments of 73 police officers who were previously convicted for the massacre in the Carandiru prison is destroyed. They were earlier convicted for the death of 77 of a total of 111 death of prisoners during a revolt on October 2, 1992.
The judgment follows almost 24 years after the massacre in the Brazilian prison.
The court continued that there is a new legal procedure against the police officers, because they individually cannot be held responsible for all the deaths.
The public prosecutor has announced an appeal to the Supreme court in Brazil.
The Argentine director Héctor Babenco (of Kiss of the Spider Woman) made a film about the massacre Carandiru. The prison was in 2002 and demolished.
