Shailene Woodley maintain a strict diet to portray real-life sailor, Tami Oldham Ashcraft, who was lost at sea for 41 days after a storm raped her sailboat.

Shailene Woodley has revealed that she ate almost nothing for her most recent role in the movie “Adrift.”
The 26-year-old star said in a recent interview with The time for her role as real-life sailor, Tami Oldham Ashcraft, Woodley living on a 350 calorie per day diet, to mimic the 41 days she was lost at sea. The actress said in order to maintain the strict diet, they would eat the minimal amount of food and the dinner skipped, but it was not easy.
“I can’t sleep if I’m hungry, so I’d have a glass of wine to basically adjust the f— off,” Woodley known. “For the last two weeks I had a tin of salmon, some steamed broccoli and two egg yolks each day.”
In the summer of 1983, at the age of 23, Ashcraft and her boyfriend Richard Sharp were left to their fate on their yacht after being caught in a storm while sailing on the sea. According to the People, Ashcraft survived at sea for 41 days on a diet of peanut butter and determination during her 700-mile journey to the nearest point of land in Hawaii.
After her drift experience, Tami wrote a memoir tited, “Red Sky in the Mourning,” and eagerly waited for a movie based on her book for more than 30 years.
Woodley stars in the film alongside Sam Claflin who portrays Sharp.
“I don’t know that I could do without Sam,” the star admitted. We were there for one another in our moments of extreme exhaustion and hunger.”
Woodley and Ashcraft are the movie premiered.
In an interview with The New note will be the tedious hours she worked together with her British co-star and said: “We worked extremely long hours on the open sea. Sam and I were losing a lot of weight if we are not eating much. “
She continued, “So not having the fuel to your physical, along with emotional difficulties which were incredibly taxing at times, mixed with the physicality, it is a gruelling experience.”
