Slow and steady does not win the race this time around.
A Florida turtle that recently “pinned” to interfere with the traffic on Friday was a let off with a warning and a selfie, authorities said.
Assistant-L., Fontenot executed the traffic stop of the “Florida” native,” while on a routine patrol along the Nocatee Parkway to the Pc. John’s County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.

At the time of the stop, the suspect, identified as a “Gopherus Genus (exact age unknown) it was clear the road when ordered to do so by choosing to continue with its current activity-a stroll along the parkway,” the department wrote.
Fontenot is “fast locked” to the gopher tortoise, and it had an “honest” discussion ” about the slow and steady way of behavior, the post said. The suspect was cooperative and the deputy decided to place the tortoise in the woods in the area on their own recognizance” – – – but not before a photo of the meeting.
“Gopherus was cooperative for the rest of my meeting with him, so I decided to get it and sent him on his way with a warning,” Fontenot said. “Our work was so positive, that we are posed for a selfie together!”

The vehicles are a major contributor to the gopher tortoise deaths in the state, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee. They often have a den, and forage along the roads, because they are open and clear.”
If the drivers have a tendency to help a turtle in the road, and the Humane Society says, “be careful to wear them on the opposite side of the road in the same direction as they were on their way.”
