Rivera’s arrest, however, is only the latest in a string of arrests of Montalvo, the former members of the family. Officials also told Fox News, more arrests are expected in the next couple of days. Osceola County Sheriff Russ Gibson emphasized that in Montalvo’s murder, which, he said, is believed to have been premeditated, is the worst case of cruelty he has seen in his more than three decades of law enforcement careers.

The 33-year-old Montalvo, known to many in her community as well as a smiling staff member at the Broadway Pizza Bar in Kissimmee, was reported missing Oct. 23. She had dropped off her 8-year-old son, Elijah, into the Pc. The Cloud house by his father, a Otero-Rivera, and two days ago, but will not go back to pick him up. On Oct. 25, the researchers reported the discovery of human remains on the grounds of Montalvo, in-laws, and the authorities have confirmed the remains as belonging to Montalvo, soon after.

Montalvo has allegedly been a victim of domestic violence, and had sought the protection of the Otero-Rivera. Her murder occurred while Otero-Rivera was still on a trial basis, as part of a plea deal he accepted after a personal attack from Montalvo in the previous year.

News, the 33-year-old murder quickly led to outrage among the close-knit community, and the local police, who have vowed to seek justice for her family and to advocate for stronger laws to protect other domestic violence victims.
