A Chinese woman was arrested for ‘stomping on the’ sea turtle nest in the South, police said

A Chinese citizen living in Michigan, was on Saturday arrested after “pitch over” of a sea turtle nest in the South, authorities said.

Yaqun, Lu, 41, was seen using a wooden stick in her hand, “save the sea turtle’s nest,” as she stomped with her bare feet, of Miami Beach, according to police. The nest is in an area sealed off from the public and sticks with yellow tape and a “do Not Disturb” sign, according to the Miami Herald.

“Fortunately, it appears that the eggs were not damaged,” the Miami Beach police department tweeted.

Lu is faced with a misdemeanor charges of molesting marine turtles or eggs.

Lu, a Chinese national who is listed as a Hudsonville, Mich., address. The Chinese consulate in Houston, texas and was informed about the arrest, the Herald reported.

Sea turtles are protected by federal law and Florida law, it is illegal to harm them or their offspring. The nesting season runs from May 1 to Oct. 31, according to Miami Beach police.
