A British family for a visit to Canada, was taken into custody earlier this month after she mistakenly took a wrong turn and crossed the northern border into the U.S., news reports said Monday.
Eileen Connors, 24, and her husband, David, Connors, 30, and his cousin, Michael, You were visited with family in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Oct. 3 for when they say that they accidentally rode into the United States of america. The other members of the family, including a 2-year-old twins, and the couple’s 3-month-old baby boy, were also in the car.

“They had no idea they had crossed any border,” the family’s lawyer, Bridget Cambria, told the news outlet. “They had no idea they were even in the United States of america. They were just trying to get back to the hotel.”

To the family, Connor says, is that she accidentally took a wrong turn into Canada on Oct. (3), and ended up crossing the border into the U.S.
“We were asked whether we couldn’t just turn around to the prosecutor said” no, no,” Eileen wrote in a sworn declaration, obtained by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “We have to continue to repeat that we do not want to be here. We are to be held and dealt with in a way that no human being deserves to be treated that way.”

The next day, the couple said they were initially told that they could not be released into the custody of a family member living in the united states, but when they were informed that they were not released, and instead was forced to stay in detention. Eileen said that she had been forced out of the cells to be in a bus, in a scene in which she is described as being similar to those of a kidnapping or hostage-taking.”

David was transferred to a different detention center, and Eileen and her child were sent to the Red Roof Inn in Seattle, Wash. On Oct. 5, the family was taken to an airport in Seattle, and were flown to Pennsylvania, where they were processed at the Berks Detention Center in Leesport, Pa.
The family detention center, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility, and is one of three in the country. It has often been described as dirty, and Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf during the summer season, which is called the facility’s “wrong”, “immoral” and “inhuman.”
Eileen said that, as it is being held in the Berks, the baby has developed blotchy skin and an apparent eye infection.
“Well, We’ll be traumatized for the rest of our lives, from the government of the United States of america has done this to us,” the mother wrote in her statement. “We’re treated like criminals here, stripped of all our rights, and lied to…and This would never happen in the United Kingdom, for the citizens of the united states, or anyone else, because people are treated with dignity.”
