An innovative new device that is able to generate electricity from the night sky, according to a new study.

The study, which was published in It, notes is a new device that makes use of radiative cooling, and is able to provide enough electricity for the LED light, even at night.

“What is remarkable is that the device is able to generate electricity at night, when solar cells don’t work,” the study’s lead author, Aaswath Raman, said in a statement. “Beyond a lights, and we think that this is a broadly enabling approach to power generation is suitable for remote locations, as well as all of the power generation in the night-time.

The device is still a prototype, it was on a table three feet above the ground, on a rooftop in Stanford, California, usa. It has a polystyrene housing, which is covered with aluminized mylar to minimize thermal radiation, and it is protected by an infrared-transparent wind cover,” according to the statement.

Finally pulled the heat from the surrounding air, and brought it back to you in the night-time sky by way of a simple, black-and-radio.

Radiative cooling is described by the Space.com a state of a surface to dissipate heat to the atmosphere, it is cooler than the air around it.

“This phenomenon is explained, how the frost forms on the grass at the top of the below freezing nights, and the same principle can be used for the generation of electricity, and the use of the difference in temperature for the production of renewable electricity in the night, when the lighting demand peaks,” the statement added.

Raman and other scientists believe that they are in a position to make a number of changes to the device that can be used on a larger scale, and, in particular, is a hot, dry climate.

“Our work focuses on the many options for energy, due to the use of the cold of outer space as well as a renewable energy resource,” Raman added. “We believe that this will form the basis of a result of the technology of solar energy. While the power is on, the output will always be substantially less than that, you can work at the hours when the solar cells can’t do this.”
