With the hashtag #OscarsSoMale is also this year the lack of diversity in Hollywood raised.
After the last edition of the Oscars, which was being criticized because of the lack of people with a dark skin color, the Academy now questions about the major absence of female nominees. A trend of the Oscars for almost ninety years, a white old gentleman’s society.
After the controversy surrounding #OscarsSoWhite during the Academy Awards in 2015 and 2016, there is improvement in sight. Seven of the twenty nominees among the actors, this year is not blank. It was all ago of 2007 that there is so much diversity to bonnie among the Oscar nominees. Dev Patel (Best Actor in a Supporting Role), Denzel Washington (Best Actor), Ruth Negga (Best Actress), Viola Davis (Best Actress in a Supporting Role), Naomie Harris (Best Actress in a Supporting Role), Octavia Spencer (Best Actress in a Supporting Role), Mahershala Ali (Best Actor in a Supporting Role) have a chance at winning an Oscar. And also in the subjects of the films, we see more attention to diversity: the ‘Moonlight’, ‘Hidden Figures’ and ‘Fences’ are in the running for the golden statuette for the best film of the year.
Viola Davis explains to Variety that these nominations do not see as a direct response to #OscarsSoWhite, and that each nominee deserves to compete for an Oscar. In addition, she states that it is for black women is still difficult in the televisielandschap. “Eight years ago, I saw a lack of women that look like me on tv. And to be honest, we are still quite absent in the lead roles, especially if you’re darker than a paper bag.’ But also for people with other roots, such as Asian, Arab or Latin American, there are not many (head)roles to play.
Behind the scenes are still men that the paste swing. From directors to screenwriters, the vast majority is of the male gender. The Women’s Media Center, founded by Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem, analyzed the number of female attendees in the lists of the Oscarnominaties. This year there was again not a single female director nominated in the category Best Picture and only one female screenwriter, Allison Schroeder received recognition for her work. The documentary 13th is in the running for the prize for Best Documentary, but director Ava DuVernay may not price get. For the price of Music (Original Score) is the only woman that a price can pilfer Mica Levy for her compositions for Jackie. Levy is the first woman in this category since 2000.
Eighty percent of the nominees in the actor categories are men. From 2005 to 2016 were women, only nineteen percent of all non-acteurgerelateerde Oscar nominations. In the history of the Academy Awards, only four female directors nominated, and there is only one director who is a golden statuette on her mantelpiece can admire. Kathryn Bigelow won the award for Best Director in 2009 with her film ‘The Hurt Locker’ and is thus the exception that proves the rule.
Earlier this month did the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film a similar discovery. Research showed that only seven percent of the directors of the two hundred fifty biggest releases of the past year worked of the female gender. That was a decline of two percent compared to 2015. The report also showed that women but seventeen per cent , on the part of all directors, producers, executive producers, engineers and cinematografen who worked on the biggest films of 2016.
“Apparently, getting women not by the door, and if they are not by the door get, they can also not be recognised or rewarded for their excellence and impact”, decision Julie Burton, president of the Women’s Media Center.
Why isn’t Leslie Jones hosting the Oscars? Or Maya Rudolph? Fuck, I’d even take Amy Schumer than another dude. #OscarsSoMale

There is not only responded to the number of men that are nominated, but also the men on the shortlist of fame. So Lena Dunham questioned the nomination of Mel Gibson as Best Director because of his anti-semitic statements in the past. Constance Wu is again a sign of very little tact that Casey Affleck can compete for the golden statuette for Best Actor after it became known that in 2010, he twice was sued for sexual harassment.
I care most about the young boys & girls who will absorb what @TheAcademy’s choices will implicitly teach them about rewards & rape culture

The actresses are wondering how it is possible that the Academy less than women to nominate, but men with a questionable past honors. They point to the double standard that still exists in Hollywood, where apparently very little account is taken of the during award shows. ‘If a woman would shout about the Jews as Mel Gibson would them in a dungeon to be locked up”, says Dunham.
And even the hosts of the Academy Awards are almost always men. But six times if the show will be presented by a woman. The master of men at the front, you can go to the Oscars so very literally.
Just now the Academy thought to be relieved of criticism on their lack of diversity to prove the above figures that the next year best a higher gear.
