CHICAGO – Chicago-police say five people were killed and 44 were wounded in shootings over the Memorial Day weekend, which has become one of the deadliest periods of the year in the city.
Chicago police spokesman Anthony guglielmi (goo-lee-EHL’-mee) said Tuesday that the statistics run from 6 pm, Friday until Monday midnight. There were 33 shooting incidents in that time. The numbers this year are lower than last Memorial Day weekend, when guglielmi says seven people were killed and 61 injured in 47 shooting incidents. There were 13 people shot over the Labor Day weekend last year.
