The New Jersey family is the heatbreaking decision Friday to remove a 3 months old baby life after the baby suffered major head trauma after he accidentally fell from his babysitter’s arms in his house in Saddle Brook, N. J., The New Jersey Advance reported.
The police found the baby, Reece Modzelewski, unresponsive on Tuesday. his babysitter, a female member of the family, told the police that he fell from her arms and hit the floor, the report said. The baby’s death is being investigated.
“Our preliminary estimate was that the baby accidentally dropped by a member of the family,” Saddle Brook Township Police Chief Robert Kugler told the newspaper.
The parents, Mark Modzelewski, 32, and Nicole Nicastro, 34, decided to take the baby out of life after considering the injuries and the quality of his life if he survived.
“My little boy is dying and there is nothing I can do to help or comfort him. I don’t know if he can hear, see, taste or touch more,” Modzelewski posted on Facebook. “He is a friendly, smiling and happy baby and we gave him all the love we could….I love you Reece, and hopefully there is a heaven, and I will be able to see your goofy little smile on a day.”
Benjamin DiFranco, a friend of the family who started a GoFundMe page posted, “There is nothing more that the doctors can do. Even when he wakes up he will have no quality of life; not able to walk, talk or function on his own. This is one of the most difficult decisions will have to make.”
