2 St. Louis-area police shot, but saved by bulletproof vests

BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS, Mo. – Two St. Louis-area police officers have been shot in the chest, but bullet-proof vests apparently saved both of serious injury.

The shooting happened before 8 p.m. on Thursday in the St. Louis County town of Bellefontaine Neighbors. The shooter is barricaded in a house surrounded by a heavy presence of the police. Officials trying to negotiate his surrender.

Bellefontaine Neighbors Mayor Bob Doerr told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that both officers will be OK. He says one is a male sergeant, the other a female patrol officer. Both conscious and talking after the shooting.

Doerr had no details about what led to the shooting.
