Police shoot suspect in custody in Pennsylvania

The suspect opened fire on police responding to a call, sparking a night raid outside of Pittsburg.

Two policemen were injured in a shooting while responding to a notification kidnapping in the west of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, the officials said.

Allegheny County Police said that authorities were called to a vacant house in the Pittsburgh area town of North Braddock around 10:30 a.m. for a report of two minors are being held hostage.

As officers approached the home, someone opened fire on them.

“An officer was hit,” Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman told reporters. “The body armor stopped. He did not sustain a serious injury. He did sustain an injury to his arm. It was not life-threatening.”

The second mate ran a head injury, but was not shot, according to Schurman, who added that his injuries are not serious.


Shortly after 3 a.m. the police took two people into custody at the vacant home, according to KDKA. A third suspect was arrested at a nearby busway, police told KDKA.

The incident drew a massive response from the law enforcement of the city is located about 11 miles outside of Pittsburgh. A SWAT team was checking every vehicle entering the area and officers went door-to-door to check for any suspects involved, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The agent who was shot told WPXI he responded to the house and the people started to shoot through a door.

The officer told the tv station it was a “long night”, but he smiled and bandaged from his injuries on Wednesday morning.

Allegheny County police are leading the investigation into the incident, with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The police has not yet known if someone was actually kidnapped, and as one of the three people arrested actually had a shot at the officers.
