The suspect opened fire on police responding to a call, sparking a night raid outside of Pittsburg.

Two policemen were injured in a shooting while responding to a false report of a kidnapping in the west of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, the officials said.

Allegheny County Police said in a news release that authorities were called to a vacant house in the Pittsburgh area town of North Braddock around 10:00 a.m. after a woman told her two teenage children were held hostage in connection with the stolen drugs and money

As officers approached the home around 10:45 a.m., someone inside opened fire on them.

“An officer was hit,” Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman told reporters. “The body armor stopped. He did not sustain a serious injury. He did sustain an injury to his arm. It was not life-threatening.”

The second mate ran a head wound possibly from flying glass or a bullet,” police said. The officer who was struck in the chest was able to shoot back, before both officers were able to take cover.

The incident drew a massive response from the law enforcement of the city is located about 11 miles outside of Pittsburgh. A SWAT team was checking every vehicle entering the area and officers went door-to-door to check for any suspects involved, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

As additional officers arrived on the scene, a man was spotted on the flight for the vacant building but the authorities were unable to apprehend him. The man, identified by police as 20-year-old Dejon Howard, was arrested around 1 a.m. after he was spotted in the vicinity of a busway.

A SWAT team eventually in the vacant home and found two people inside. After being interviewed by homicide investigators, they were determined to not have been involved in the shooting or suspicion of kidnapping, police said.

“There is no reason to believe that there was a plan to ambush the officers, or lure them to the vacant structure,” according to the police.

The police said that Howard will be charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal trespass, and weapons offenses. The 20-year-old is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment on those charges.
