SANTA ANA, California. – Prosecutors have concluded, two California Highway Patrol officers acted properly when they shot and killed a man and another injured during an undercover operation in illegal street in the neighborhood of Los Angeles last year.
Orange County Senior Deputy district Attorney Brock Zimmon said an investigation found Sgt. John Cleveland, and Officer Rich Henderson legally justified in firing at a car driven by Pedro Erik Villanueva on 3 July.
Villanueva was killed, and passenger Francisco Orozco was injured.
The shooting happened after the officers followed a pick-up truck in a cul-de-sac street in the heart of Fullerton.
Officers said they fired when the truck turned around and drove in the direction of them.
The Orange County Register reported Monday (http://bit.ly/2j52Wts) that Villanueva’s family will proceed with a lawsuit against the highway patrol.
