MINEOLA, new york – A man who spent 16 years as an international fugitive after killing a guest at a New York wedding on Long Island has been sentenced to 19 years to life in prison.
Balkumar Singh was sentenced Monday in Nassau County Court. He pleaded guilty last month for the murder in 1999 in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Abzal Khan.
The authorities said that Singh shot Khan seven times in a dance floor dispute at a wedding hall; the scores of guests to witness Khan’s death.
Singh, who had several aliases, traveled to Canada and Guyana for an international manhunt ended in Trinidad, in March 2015, with his capture by law enforcement.
He was featured in a 2009 episode of “America’s most Wanted.”
