CENTRAL ISLIP, new york – A $110 million lawsuit claims a New York high school ignored warnings that MS-13 members threatened a student who was later found beaten to death.
The mother of the 16-year-old Kayla Cuevas filed the lawsuit Monday against the Brentwood School District on Long Island. Cuevas and 15-year-old Nisa Mickens were beaten and stabbed in September 2016.
The federal authorities have arrested more than a half-dozen alleged members of the MS-13 in the murders.
A spokesman for the Brentwood School District declined to comment.
Cuevas’ mother, Evelyn Rodriguez, receivables in the process that staff and teachers failed to act when told that the girl was threatened. The lawsuit says the bullying went on for two years before the teenager was killed.
MS-13 is blamed for 25 murders on Long Island since January of 2016.
