NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College in Massachusetts is one of the largest donations in the 183-year history.
The school said Thursday it received a $10 million commitment from the Diana Spencer Davis Foundation to create a professorship in social entrepreneurship.
The Maryland-based foundation supports education, national security, the groups, and a variety of conservative causes. The chairman Diana Spencer Davis is a 1960 graduate of Wheaton.
College President Dennis Hanno says that it is a “transformational gift” that will help students address major societal challenges.
Wheaton says that it will be one of the few schools in the united states with a special professorship in social entrepreneurship.
His previous largest gift was $10 million donated during a fund-raising campaign that ended in 2000.
The private college of 1,600 students located in springfield, Massachusetts, is not related to Wheaton College in Illinois.
